May 27, 2015 — The Woman’s Club of Williamsburg-GFWC has awarded their 2015 scholarships to Amanda Ritchie, Hailey Bauer, Emma Johnson, and Amanda Smith.  Each student will receive $2,250.

Scholarship winners were chosen based on their academic standing, leadership ability, extracurricular activities, and the essay each submitted on “What This Scholarship Means to Me.” Funding for the scholarships was raised by Woman’s Club events throughout the year, including the recent spring fashion show. In addition, donors Dr. Christine Piascik DDS, Allan and Frances Wonsowski, Colonial Center for Hearing, Pariser Dematology, Shirley Guenther, Sondra Markoff, Mary Hoffman, Jean Migneault and Jeanne Vanderveer contributed directly to the scholarship fund.

Amanda Ritchie is graduating from Jamestown High School and plans to attend the University of Mary Washington where she hopes to major in psychology. Amanda is member of Jamestown High School’s French Club, the Key Club, and the National Honor Society. She has served as a teacher’s assistant, and volunteers at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.

Hailey Bauer is graduating from Bruton High School and plans to attend Lynchburg College. She is the co-captain of the Bruton High School volleyball team and was a Homecoming Princess. She is a member of the Spanish Honor Society, Chemistry Honor Society and Key Club. She also is involved in musical theater and swing dance.

Amanda Smith is graduating from Lafayette High School and will attend West Virginia University to study forensics and investigative sciences. She is the captain of the Lafayette High School softball team and was named to the all-conference softball team. She was also on the cross-country team. She is a member of the National Honor Society and involved in the school newspaper. She also volunteers at the Heritage Humane Society.

Emma Johnson is graduating from Warhill High School and will study engineering at Virginia Tech.  She is the vice president of her senior class, a member of the Key Club, National Honor Society, Math Honor Society and Model United Nations. She is also on the soccer, field hockey and indoor track teams for Warhill High School.
